A durational performance, on the fate of our sources of fresh water, on drowning.

event:
DaDao Live Art Festival
venue:
South Gate Space, 798 Art Zone
location:
Beijing, China
sponsor:
DaDao Live Art Festival
date:
October 2007

Project Notes:

Moving in slow motion across the courtyard, with long periods of stillness, each stage of the action was viewed by the audience as they came and went between other performances in the adjacent theater. The performance lasted three hours.

Sitting with a bowl of water at my feet.
Carrying the bowl of water.
Kneeling and submerging my face in the water.
Drinking all the water.
Carrying the empty bowl.
The bowl drops and shatters.
Losing my hands at a table of salt.
Burying my face in the salt.

It could be viewed as an image relating to the depletion of our supply of fresh water, as we drain our sources of water, causing salinization of our water, dying in the salt.
Or, it might be viewed as an image of drowning.
