An action to brighten a dark corner of Da'an Park.
We went to look at Da’an Park, our first location for performances, on a cold, rainy morning. It was just hours since I had arrived in Taipei after more than 20 hours of travel. As we drove into town, I realized that we were staying near the flower market, which I had visited on my last trip to Taiwan. The market extends for several blocks underneath the elevated subway train, and is filled to brimming with brilliant orchids.
As we walked through the different sections of the park, I noticed in the distance a dark wooded area on the far side of the park, near the entrance on He Ping E. Road. The trees branches were dense and overarching, while the area underneath was barren and the ground hard-packed.
The next morning I woke up with the image of yellow flowers covering the bare earth, illuminating the darkness under the trees.
I wanted to be that mound of flowers, that source of light.
